The Feldenkrais Foundation is pleased to announce a special, fully sponsored program for seniors called Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method: Flexibility, Balance and Pain Relief for Seniors. This 12-session program features a selection of Feldenkrais exercises designed to meet the needs of the senior population. Safe and stress-free, Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method can help bring about significant improvements in the senior population’s balance, flexibility, confidence and comfort.

Feldenkrais exercises are unlike any other form of exercise. Instead of stretching or using muscular effort, Feldenkrais exercises stimulate the brain with an ingenious blend of gentle movement and guided attention to bring about improvements in the body. Ideally suited for use by seniors, the exercises featured in Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method are stress-free, and can reduce pain and stiffness, help reduce the symptoms of arthritis, and aide in recovery from injury. The exercises focus on improving balance and improving range and ease of movement, which can help to reduce the risk of falls and restore a sense of well-being and self-confidence. Uniquely therapeutic, the exercises featured in Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method will give seniors an opportunity to change some of their habitual patterns of posture and movement. This is especially beneficial to elders, because many of habitual patterns of posture and movement exacerbate muscular-skeletal problems commonly associated with aging.

When our ability to move comfortably is compromised, our movement repertoire can become limited, which has a negative impact on all daily activities and functions. With reduced mobility, older adults may begin to feel less confident, less socially engaged, and experience problems with reduced circulation, poor balance, joint pain, muscular stiffness, and have difficulty relaxing. Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method is a safe and effective way to help seniors maintain and protect their ability to move freely, safely and comfortably. The Feldenkrais Foundation is confidant that it can play a significant role in helping New York area seniors avoid many of these unnecessary physical problems.

To increase convenience and accessibility, the exercises featured in Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method can be done either sitting in chairs, or while lying on exercise mats. Each of the 12 sessions included in this program will be led on your premises by Feldenkrais Foundation staff, certified by the Feldenkrais Guild of North America, and trained by David Zemach-Bersin, a senior Feldenkrais Method Trainer with extensive experience working with elders.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we are delighted to be able to provide Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method at the New York City area Senior Centers, free of charge for participants.
